10 Years Of Zinc!

Can you quite believe it guys ???

This year Zinc is 10 years in business and on the 29th of August we had a little party to celebrate.

But I thought it was a good time to reflect and actually tell you all about Zinc’s beginnings and also how we have grown and developed over the 10 years .

Back in 2008 the recession had hit Dublin and I was working in a salon in the city center. While on holidays with Keith in the black forest in Germany I got a phone call from my previous boss Tina, who informed me she was selling her salon in Kilmainham and wanted to know if I was interested. I had joked with Tina when I left, that one day I’d be back to take the place over (lol) I was a cheeky 21 year old then and really hadn’t even thought about my own salon at 25 years of age.

That night Myself and Keith discussed what would we call a salon, I had said I always liked words that begin with ‘Z’ and Keith suggested Zinc ! It was a word that I had grown up listening to as my dad works in Tara Mines where they mine Lead and Zinc . Zinc is also a mineral that is vital for healthy hair and skin. It was a perfect fit.

When I came home I spoke to a friend who helped me put together a business plan and I approached the banks and a micro finance company and on May 20th 2009 in 631 South Circular Road, Zinc opened .

I started with myself and 2 others and then in June, Natasha joined my team and in September Rebecca joined me. These ladies a have been the core of  Zinc over the past 10 years. Our team grew and we expanded past being able to fit in all the clients in our smaller unit, so in 2013 we moved into our current location at 637/639 South Circular road and added our Beauty Section where I hunted down Tanya and asked her to join us as a manager (best decision ever!).

I look forward to what the next ten years will bring and I want to take a moment to thank every former staff member who was on our journey with us and every client who ever walked through the door. You are all part of the Zinc Army too

Big love and hugs

Lisa
